The Mohawk College Alumni Advisory Council acts in an advisory capacity and as ambassadors for the Alumni Relations Department and the college. Council members provide insight and recommendations to ensure alumni activities fully engage Alumni Association members.
Lucas Lubin - Journalism - Print and Broadcast, 2012
While studying at Mohawk, Lucas was also a victim services volunteer, a member of the Canadian Forces reserves, and a staff writer and radio host for the campus newspaper and radio station. He converted an internship with CBC News Network into an associate producer position for the broadcasting corporation's News Now program. Lessons learned in seeking truth and helping others were transferred into his life-long dream of becoming a sworn police officer for the Hamilton Police Service. Lucas is currently assigned to the youth and school office in the city’s core and has volunteered at multiple events aimed at enhancing young lives. He aims to continue to serve others in various ways in partnership with the community.
Alex Pal - Mechanical Engineering Technology, 2009
While studying at Mohawk, Alex was involved with residence life and activities at Fennell Campus. Today, Alex is a real estate investor, developer and agent along with his wife and business partner Kaely. His company, Pal Property Solutions is a professional, full-service real estate solutions company located in Hamilton, Ontario specializing in partnering with individuals who are interested in investing in real estate but don't know how or where to start.
Chris Tarpos - Broadcasting, Television and Communications Media, 2013
Chris started working in the television industry at the age of 17 as an extra on the television series “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” In his first year at Mohawk College, he was offered internships at Corus Entertainment and YTV, along with a volunteer on-air gig at MuchMusic. He was also offered a job as a teleprompter operator at CHCH News. In the summer before entering his third year at Mohawk, Chris accepted an internship at Bell Media as a web content coordinator. Along with working, Chris has volunteered on a variety of Canadian award shows such as the Juno Awards, the Gemini Awards, Canada’s Walk of Fame, the Canadian Country Music Awards, and the MuchMusic Video Awards. Before graduating in June 2013, Chris was offered a job as a master control operator at Bell Media, where he still works today. Chris also works in film as an actor and a stand-in.
Katherine Whittington - Social Service Worker, 2010
Katherine spent her first year in college having fun, making friends and creating a welcoming environment as a residence staff person on the Social Orientation Staff (S.O.S) committee. In Katherine’s second year, she continued her work experience as a resident advisor (RA), believing that a warm smile, listening ear and an open door is the start to help problem solve many worries and stressors. Today, Katherine works as a direct support facilitator for Community Living Hamilton, in their residential supports division.
